The Haywood County Tourism Development Authority (HCTDA) is the legislatively mandated entity responsible for collecting occupancy taxes for all paid accommodations in the county, and determines the allocation of those dollars to drive overnight visitation. The HCTDA collects a 4% occupancy tax and invests those funds in a variety of tourism marketing efforts. The county has a long tradition of tourism marketing, having been one of the first counties in North Carolina to authorize the creation of a TDA and to invest in countywide destination promotion. It has enjoyed a reputation for decades as a mountain retreat set among some of the highest mountain peaks in eastern North America and two national parks.
The HCTDA produces an annual visitors guide (print and electronic versions available) and hosts a visitors website www.VisitNCsmokies.com. The HCTDA sustains a strong presence on Social Media including: Facebook www.facebook.com/VisitNCSmokies, Twitter www.twitter.com/VisitNCsmokies, Instagram @visitncsmokies, Pinterest www.pinterest.com/visitncsmokies.com and YouTube www.youtube.com/SmokyMountainsNC. The TDA administers a toll-free hotline to provide visitors with information and also runs a county Visitor Center located in Maggie Valley.
*The HCTDA office will be closed in observance of Memorial Day, Monday May 29, 2017. The visitor center will remain open during normally scheduled hours from 9am – 5pm.*
